Radiohead and NIN have already shown that popular artists can use the net on their own terms to successfully release their music. And now R.E.M., progressive from the beginning, is going to stream their latest album, for free, one week before the official release. A clear trend is emerging, especially considering that R.E.M. is doing this with full blessings from their major label, Warner. Seems like at least one of the major labels is finally playing footsie with the net. It's good to see the Athens rockstars edging their label forward.
